Breast Cancer: the breast cancer page
is a
compilation of resources for those who have been
diagnosed with this dreaded disease process and those
caring for and about breast cancer patients. I
have included links to the best resources I have found
for the individual to educate and empower themselves.
Cancer in general is very different from other disease
entities: with strep throat you take a week to 10
days of antibiotic and are "cured". With cancer,
you might consent to every treatment recommended and
still have the disease. All treatment is based on
the outcomes for those patients who preceded you and
your oncologists experience with these treatments.
There are annual symposiums for cancer where researchers
from around the world gather twice annually to compare
data on various treatments. Most oncologists
follow the protocols agreed to by the scientists at
these meetings: a general cancer symposium in June
and a breast cancer symposium in December.
However, there are any number of variations in treatment
depending on where you live and your oncologist's
personal experience with different treatment modalities.
It is difficult to say that one treatment is "better" or
"best". |

Breast Cancer.org - this is probably
the most useful site on the internet for information
about breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. It is
well written and easy to understand. The site also
has a bulletin board where users may post questions to
other breast cancer patients. There is also real
time chat available. This site is a must for
anyone going thru breast cancer treatment or for the
families of those in treatment. |
